Winter is not over yet and the temperature in Kolkata and other parts of south Bengal is likely to drop again.
Although it is very uncommon for the temperature to drop below 15°C in February, officials from the Alipore Meteorological department said that the chill will be back on Saturday after a spell of rain on Friday. The temperature will rise again from Wednesday though, as a cyclonic circulation approaches the state from Madhya Pradesh.
The night temperature will rise by 2-3°C over the next two to three days. There will be rainfall across south Bengal on Friday. The western districts may also receive moderate rainfall although no clear predictions are available for Kolkata yet. But the officials said that there may be thundershowers in Kolkata.
Once the rainfall is over, high percentage of moisture in the air will come down. The northwesterly wind will then be free to enter the state causing the temperature to drop.
Winter this time has been frequently interrupted by western disturbances leading to spells of increased temperature. It had led people to think that winter would be over early. However, the chill has come back from time to time and the pattern will continue till early next week.
