Five days after a portion of an overbridge collapsed in Mumbai’s Andheri, a 36-year-old woman succumbed to injuries on Saturday at a local hospital in Juhu.
The deceased was identified as Asmita Katkar who used to work as a domestic help in Mumbai.
With fractures in Katkar’s both upper arms, she was admitted to the hospital immediately after the accident. The mother of a six-year-old boy was on ventilator support since then. At around 6.50pm on Saturday, she was declared dead.
On July 3, Gokhale Bridge — that connects Andheri East and Andheri West stations — collapsed on the southern end of Andheri station between platform seven and eight at around 7.30 a.m. Railway minister Piyush Goel accepted there were some designing lapses in the 40-year-old bridge.
