Zones A, B, C in Kolkata & the rest of Bengal: what’s open, what’s not

The West Bengal government on Monday divided the red and orange zones across the state into three categories based on the sensitivity of areas. The detection of Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) has been the main criterion for identifying category A.

Wards in urban areas and gram panchayats have been selected as the basic units for such zoning. Polling stations or booths in every ward and gram panchayats are being identified as the units for planning containment zones.

The three categories are – category A (affected area), category B (buffer area) and category C (clean area).

Restrictions for category A:

* No socio-economic activities allowed

*Entire area will be cordoned off and movement restricted along with CCTV surveillance, drone, mobile app based tracking on how these are being followed

*Regular sanitisation and cleaning by local municipal bodies

*Task force for fever mapping and enforcing restrictions. Intensive training and contact tracing

*Organising home delivery of essentials including food, medicines and health services

*PPEs for frontline workers

Relaxations in category B (buffer area):

All activities that are allowed in category C with 25 per cent strength

Relaxations in category C (clean area):

What is permitted:

*Industries with 50 per cent workforce

*Regular health services with full strength

*Markets with five persons at a given point of time with 6 ft distance between them

*All activities under MNREGS

*Restaurants only for home delivery

*E-commerce and courier service of both essential and non-essential products

*Salons and parlours with adequate safety measures

*Petrol/diesel pumps, auto repairing shops and garages

*Intra-state bus, taxi and cab services with not more than 20 passengers or 50 per cent of the seating capacity whichever is higher in buses and not more than two passengers in each taxi.

What will continue to remain closed:

*All schools, colleges, technical institutions, ICDS centres will remain closed till the second week of June

*Metro railway

*Cinema and theatre halls, shopping malls, gymnasiums, swimming pools, entertainment parks, bars, auditoriums, assembly halls, spas

*All social, cultural, religious and political gatherings
