986 new cases in Bengal: highest so far on a single day, 3,592 new cases in the last four days

There were 986 new cases of Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) reported on Wednesday. This is the highest number of cases reported in the state on a single day. There were 850 new cases on July 7 and 861 cases were reported on July 6 and 895 cases were reported on July 5

The total number of COVID-19 cases reported in the state has now gone up to 24,823 with 827 deaths so far, 23 of which took place in the past 24 hours. The high number of reported cases and more deaths than what has taken place in the past few days has also led to a drop in the discharge rate – from 66.24 per cent to 65.62 per cent in one day. There are 7,705 active COVID-19 cases in the state right now. The number of tests done during the same 24 hours was 10,386.

The state government is going for a fresh lockdown in the affected areas — where cases were reported in large numbers or areas that have potential chances of massive outbreak. The lockdown will start from July 9 at 5 pm for a week and the state will review if the lockdown is to continue or lifted. Here is the full list of 390 affected areas — where lockdown will be implemented — in Kolkata, Howrah and North 24 Parganas.
