Acknowledging the importance of opposition’s unity to fight the BJP, senior Congress leader K C Venugopal announced that the Congress and Janata Dal (Secular) will have a pre-poll alliance in the next year’s general election.
He also stated that the Congress-JD(S) leadership have decided together that the JD(S) will be holding the finance portfolio in Karnataka while Congress will be in charge of the home department and the Bengaluru city development department.
Both Congress and JD(S) wanted the finance department since the time chief minister H D Kumaraswamy proved majority in the floor-test on May 25. Congress Rahul Gandhi and JD (S) supremo H D Deve Gowda talked over phone and sorted out the matter.
The ministry expansion is slated for June 6.
