Mamata Banerjee gets discharged from hospital, leaves on wheelchair

She was injured two days ago in Nandigram, on March 10

West Bengal chief minister and Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee got discharged from SSKM Hospital on Friday evening. She left the hospital at around 7 PM and went home in a vehicle to her house in Kalighat.

Banerjee was injured in Nandigram of East Midnapore district on March 10, a few hours after she had filed her nomination in Haldia. Banerjee was meeting people while standing on the footboard of her vehicle when the door was slammed shut. She has alleged that four to five persons pushed her. Her party, the Trinamool Congress, has moved the Election Commission of India alleging that it was a “conspiracy” and not an “accident”.

The CM was rushed to SSKM Hospital as her foot started swelling up. After a round of tests, her leg was put in a cast. Earlier today, the cast was removed, and with the swelling reduced, another fresh cast was put in its place. The doctors examined her request to discharge her and agreed that subsequent treatment can continue at home. She came out of the hospital on a wheelchair wearing a pair of special shoes that can be worn with the cast on.

While she may have planned to start her political programmes on Saturday, it now appears that she may get back to work from Monday. The Trinamool Congress’ plan to release the party manifesto has been delayed due to the Nandigram incident.
