West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee will hold a rally in Barasat on Thursday opposing the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and National Register of Citizens (NRC). She will also inaugurate a bunch of developmental projects and lay the foundation stone for a number of projects.
For the past few weeks – since the contentious CAA was passed in both houses of the Parliament in December 2019, Banerjee has been holding rallies protesting CAA and NRC in almost every programme, almost every day.
Whether these are government programmes or her party’s, the Bengal CM wants to carry on with her protests against the NRC and the CAA, and hopes that the political battle she has taken on against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at the Centre, continues. Banerjee has been among the first leaders in the country to object to the implementation of the NRC and the CAA, and hopes to continue with the agitation and protests.
On Thursday, she will walk a distance of five kilometres in a rally along with party members and common people in the Madhyamgram area. Later, she will inaugurate projects before opening a Jatra festival. Banerjee will lay the foundation stone for 28 projects and inaugurate 51 others.
