Mamata Banerjee calls Congress the CPIM’s “right hand” in Bengal

West Bengal chief minister and Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee on Friday attacked both the Congress and the Communist Party of India (Marxist) in the state Assembly. She raised questions about the future of the Congress party, calling them the CPI(M)’s “right hand”.

Banerjee said that “it had been proved now that the Congress is the right hand of the CPI(M)”. “This is the reason I had quit the Congress party,” she said. The Trinamool Congress chief said that the Congress party had headed towards a zero all over the country. “Wherever there is presence of a regional party, they are defeating the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)” Banerjee said, adding that in areas where regional parties were not strong enough, the Congress was managing to get some votes due to the protests of the regional parties.

She said that the CPI(M) had done no work during their 34 years of rule in Bengal and now they were keen on forming the government again. “You got roshogolla in 2016, and will get a bigger rajbhog in the coming elections,” she said.
