The West Bengal State Election Commission (SEC) held a preparatory meeting on the civic polls and decided that notification for the polls will be issued by the second week of March. The election in Kolkata Municipal Corporation and other civic bodies in Bengal will be held within 25 to 28 days of the notification.
In the meeting, the district magistrates (DM) were asked to start preparations for the polls which includes selecting poll officials and polling booths in their respective areas.
Returning officers will be primarily responsible for overseeing the entire election process and returning the results to the SEC. A returning officer may oversee elections in two constituencies at the most.
The DMs were asked to prepare the list of voters of respective areas under their jurisdiction. The final list of voters will be published on February 27.
