Allegation of “irregularities” in nominations of Trinamool & party-supported RS candidates

The nominations of two Rajya Sabha candidates – one from Trinamool Congress and the other backed by the party – in West Bengal are under scrutiny after the Left Front cited some “irregularities” in their nominations.
The Left parties have made such allegations against Trinamool Congress leader Mausam Benazir Noor and former party MLA Dinesh Bajaj, who is contesting independently, backed by the party.

The Left Front in the state has alleged that Noor has an ongoing criminal case against her name but it was not notified by her party in their official social media account within 48 hours of her filing nomination. According to a Supreme Court ruling in February, political parties must notify the public about any ongoing proceedings against a candidate in a local vernacular newspaper, a national newspaper, and on the official social media platforms of the party within the given time.
The Left Front has alleged that Bajaj’s nomination paper does not contain the signature of a notary which is required in filing nomination.
The Election Commission will announce their decision in the matter at around 11 am on Tuesday.
