Amid the imminent exit of East Midnapore’s Nandigram MLA Subhendu Adhikary from the Trinamool Congress, a state government move on Friday is being deemed of as hugely significant and it is being talked about in the political and administrative circles of the state.
The Mamata Banerjee government on Friday appointed a new police superintendent in East Midnapore district — a decision that has a connection with the overall situation in East Midnapore, sources said. While appointment of a new SP for the district is an administrative decision, police’s role in keeping a constant eye on a specific area and the overall law and order situation obviously has political ramifications.
Praween Prakash, deputy commissioner of the North Zone in Howrah Police Commissionerate, will join as the new SP of East Midnapore. The present SP, Sunil Kumar Yadav, will join as commandant of the RAF Battalion in Debgram, Siliguri. Anupam Singh will join the Howrah Police Commissionerate in place of Praween Prakash.
