The Trinamool Congress and the Left Front have announced their candidates for the West Bengal by-elections in Karimpur, Kharagpur and Kaliyaganj.
The by-elections will be held for all three seats on November 25.
Trinamool Congress announced that Pradip Sarkar, chairman of Kharagpur Municipality will contest from Kharagpur, Bimalendu Singh Roy and Tapan Deb Singh will contest from Karimpur and Kaliyaganj respectively.
According to the results of last Lok Sabha elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has a lead in Kharagpur and Kaliyaganj while Trinamool is ahead in Karimpur.
Meanwhile, the Left Front has kept two seats for the Congress to contest from, instead of fielding their own candidates. The LF will be contesting from Karimpur and has left the Kharagpur and Kaliyaganj for Congress candidates.
In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP had increased its presence in the state considerably and came up as the main opposition, much ahead of the Left parties and Congress.
Golam Rabbi is the Left candidate in Karimpur. At a press conference today, Left Front leader Biman Basu said that his party will support the Congress candidates in Kharagpur and Kaliyaganj. He also said that the Left Front-Congress alliance will unite all the voters against Trinamool Congress and BJP in the state.
