Bhopal shelter home inmates allege sexual assault by founder

Inmates of a private shelter home in Madhya Pradesh’s Bhopal have alleged that the founder-director sexually abused them for a long time. A case was registered against two people on the basis of allegations made by five inmates – two girls and three boys.

The inmates alleged that three fellow inmates have died due to abuse earlier. Police arrested the founder-director on the basis of the complaint.

The inmates first went to the social justice department before going to the police. A first information report was subsequently lodged with the police. The shelter home is registered with the social welfare department. There are 42 boys and 58 girls living in the home since 2003. Some of the inmates are children with special needs.

The Congress in Madhya Pradesh alleged that the government had ignored a complaint filed in the past against the shelter home’s founder who is also its director.
