Dismissing the appointment of Priyanka Gandhi Vadra as the general secretary for Uttar Pradesh (East) ahead of the Lok Sabha elections as a demonstration of how the Congress cannot ‘think beyond that family’, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesperson Sambit Patra said today that the party president Rahul Gandhi had ‘failed’.
Being rejected from being a part of the mahagatbandhan taking shape in the states and not being able to ‘look beyond the Gandhi family’ are the reasons why the Congress has ‘publicly announced’ the entry of Priyanka in politics, according to Patra. The BJP spokesperson also called the move ‘desperate’ and an admission of failure by Rahul Gandhi to use Priyanka as a ‘crutch’. He added that while for the BJP the ‘party is the family’, for the Congress the ‘family is the party’.
The Congress party has also announced that KC Venugopal will be the new All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary (organisation) replacing Ashok Gehlot. Ghulam Nabi Azad who is the Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha is the new general secretary in charge of Haryana. Jyotiraditya Scindia has been appointed as the general secretary of western UP and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra that of eastern UP. She is slated to take charge on February 1.
