Harinaryan Rajbhar, Bharatiya Janta Party’s (BJP) Member of Parliament, from Ghosi in Uttar Pradesh, wants the formation of a national commission for men. A similar demand has been made by Anshul Verma, also BJP MP from Uttar Pradesh.
The intended objective behind the formation of this commission is to safeguard the interests of men who Rajbhar feels are “suffering at the hands” of their wives. The two BJP MPs have also planned to address a programme in New Delhi on September 23 to gather support for a “purush ayog”.
Demanding that the statutory determined body be run at par with the National Commission for Women (NCW), Rajbhar wants a forum where men too can highlight their plight. The MP has said there should be justice for everyone.
Rajbhar also claimed that after talking about the proposal in Parliament in the monsoon session last month, he got over 5,000 messages from men across the country and even abroad expressing support for the idea.
