A.K Bassi, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) officer who was transferred to the Andaman and Nicobar Islands has moved Supreme Court challenging the transfer, saying it was vitiated by mala fide intentions and would prejudice the investigation against Rakesh Asthana, the former special director of CBI.
Bassi had been once transferred to Port Blair back in October 2018 when Alok Verma was asked to go on leave. But he was transferred back the Delhi when Verma was reinstated in January.
Bassi was the primary investigating officer in the corruption case against Rakesh Asthana last year and he was supposed to continue the investigation when he was transferred back to the capital by Verma. But when Verma was removed again within two days of his reinstatement, Bassi again got transferred to Port Blair.
Bassi said that the transfer is meant to victimise him and that the order fails to state the reasons. He said that he fears he will be implicated in false cases and departmental proceedings because of his investigation against Asthana.
Further, he said in the plea that he was never a part of any “group or faction” within the CBI and is unconcerned about the internal disputes of the department. He was merely discharging the duties given to him under lawful authority in a fair impartial manner.
