Following the brutal murder of Rising Kashmir’s editor-in-chief Shujaat Bukhari and alleged ceasefire violations from other side of the border, the Centre on Sunday announced that the Ramzan ceasefire would not be extended in Jammu and Kashmir. The ceasefire decision was taken at the start of the holy month of Ramzan on May 17, 2018.

Home minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday morning tweeted that the government had been forced to take such a decision as terrorist groups were trying to destroy the government’s effort in ensuring peace and harmony in the state. Praising the security agencies deployed in the state, he added, “While the Security Forces have displayed exemplary restraint during this period, the terrorists have continued with their attacks, on civilians and SFs, resulting in deaths and injuries.”
