CM upset with Kolkata’s Chingrihata accidents & “ego” of police officers

Kolkata and Salt Lake police asked to sort out matter to prevent further accident.

West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday said police authorities must be more vigilant at Kolkata’s Chingrihata crossing to prevent further accidents in the area. “Kolkata Police and Bidhannagar Police are specific about their demarcated jurisdiction in the area. This sort of ‘ego’ should not lead to loss of precious human lives,” she said, adding that she had checked details of recent accidents at the spot and some were “avoidable”.

“Remember, lives of human beings are precious,” she told Bidhannagar police commissioner, Supratim Sarkar, at an administrative meeting of North 24 Parganas, which was being telecast live. “I have told the DGP and the Kolkata CP about this. Please sort it out so that such accidents do not take place,” she told Sarkar.

Following this reprimand, senior officers of Salt Lake police and Kolkata Police visited the spot after the administrative meeting, checking their respective jurisdiction at the Chingrihata crossing along with traffic signals, speed limits, road condition, dividers and so on.
