COVID-19: Banks in Bengal to remain open till 5 pm from Thursday

They were open till 2 pm due to restrictions in view of Coronavirus.

West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday said that the state has extended the time for banks to function on weekdays from tomorrow.

“We are extending the functional time of banks in the state from tomorrow. It will be functioning till 5 pm tomorrow onwards,” Mamata Banerjee said.

Bengal has been following certain restrictions in view of the COVID-19 pandemic, and for some months now, all banks have been functioning for a limited time from 10 am to 2 pm.

The state government’s newly launched Lokkhir Bhandar programme has received a huge number of applications and many are required to visit banks in this connection for work relating to their bank accounts. This is also one of the reasons banks are beginning to function normally, apart from the fact that the pandemic situation in the state has improved, said officials.
