The number of containment zones in Kolkata and its surrounding districts has now increased to 2,326, with most of the areas in Kolkata.
Kolkata has the highest number of positive cases of Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) and naturally, the highest number of containment zones. The Centre and state government’s restrictions are applicable to the containment zones only, with the current restrictions extended till July 31.
Currently, there are 5,959 active cases in West Bengal, with 611 new cases reported in the last 24 hours. Of the total 19,170 cases in the state so far, 6,222 are from Kolkata, 2,770 are from Howrah, 3,086 are from North 24 Parganas and 1,134 are from South 24 Parganas.
