COVID-19 in Bengal: complaints of insufficient ration distribution, food secretary changed

West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday said that those who have not received full ration this month, will get it in the next month. She was upset at the cabinet meeting held at the state administrative headquarters Nabanna, and told food minister Jyotipriya Mullick to ensure that the poor get their full ration. Food secretary, Manoj Agarwal was shifted to another department and a new secretary brought in his place.

Though the government had decided to give free ration to the poor for six months, there was a large number of complaints that there was uneven distribution of the free ration.

Free ration of five kilo rice and three kilo wheat was to be given to the poor, and those who did not want to take wheat would get the same amount of rice in its place. But this has not happened due to certain issues, and Banerjee was angry that there were complaints of inadequate supply though the government had promised that food should not be a problem during this time of crisis as the poor did not have work.

The CM assured that everyone will continue to get free ration under their individual quota for the next five months and there is no need to worry.
