Maharashtra continues to top the list with the most number of cases (6,817) followed by Gujarat (2,815) and Delhi (2,514). Other states which have reported a high number of COVID-19 cases are Rajasthan (2,034), Madhya Pradesh (1,852), Tamil Nadu (1,755) and Uttar Pradesh (1,621).
In view of the growing number of cases, Tamil Nadu has announced complete lockdown in Chennai, Madurai, Coimbatore, Salem and Tirupur from April 26. There will be a blanket ban on all activities except “extremely essential services” as notified by the government.
The Centre has allowed select shops, except those in shopping malls, to open from Saturday. Market complexes outside the limits of municipal corporations and municipalities are allowed to open. However, use of masks, gloves have been made mandatory other than social distancing in shops. The shops will have to run with 50 per cent workers.

Four more interministerial central teams (IMCT) have been sent to inspect COVID-19 situation in Ahmedabad, Surat, Hyderabad and Chennai. Earlier, six teams were sent to West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Maharashtra.
