COVID-19: Kolkata Film Festival postponed, to be held in Jan 2021

The Kolkata International Film Festival – a key event in the city’s calendar – has been postponed due to the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic. Instead of November 5-12, 2020, the KIFF will now be held from January 8 to 15, 2021.

Chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday took to Twitter to announce the postponement. She wrote on Twitter: “After receiving global film fraternity’s consent, I hereby inform all stakeholders of Kolkata International Film Festival & cine lovers that our festival has been rescheduled, given the current circumstances. It will now be held from Jan 8-15, 2021. Let the preparations begin!”

Earlier, the 26th KIFF was planned with several restrictions. This included organising the festival in only state run halls, mostly proposed on “online mode”.  The inauguration had been planned at Netaji Indoor Stadium, with limited number of invitees and only few halls with limited seats selected for venue. The theme country this year is Italy.

Now, the new schedule will be prepared in view of the COVID-19 situation in the city around January 2021, said officials.
