COVID-19: Schools may re-open after Durga Puja-Diwali, if situation remains under control, says Mamata Banerjee

There are apprehensions about a third wave.

Schools across West Bengal may re-open after Durga Puja, Kali Puja and Diwali, if all goes well and the COVID-19 situation remains under control, chief minister Mamata Banerjee said today.

She said that there are apprehensions about a third wave, and if it hits then the government will have to do a rethink on it. “How the situation unfolds, we do not know yet. We know that it is under control in West Bengal as of now. But if the situation changes due to a third wave, we have to act accordingly,” Banerjee said, answering a question on the possibility of re-opening schools that have remained closed for over a year and a half due to Coronavirus.

Banerjee said that if things go well, schools will be sanitised and re-opened after the Puja break. The same is expected to apply to other educational institutions.
