COVID-19 spike in Bengal: Schools, colleges closed, other restrictions
Beauty parlours, swimming polls, salons closed.
The Bengal government on Sunday announced various measures to contain the spread of COVID-19, as the number of cases has seen a sharp increase in the past one week.
The most significant measure includes closing of all schools, colleges, universities from tomorrow, January 3. Other than that, all flights coming from the UK are also being suspended temporarily from January 3. UK has been notified as a high-risk country where number of Omicron cases is high.
Flights from Delhi and Mumbai – which have seen the highest number of the Omicron strain – to Kolkata will run only twice a week, Monday and Friday. These are some of the major restrictions imposed by the Bengal government:
*All schools, colleges, universities to remain closed from January 3. Only 50 per cent staff working on administrative duties may be present;
*All statutory bodies under the government will have 50 per cent attendance
*All private offices and establishments will have 50 per cent attendance
*Beauty parlours, swimming pools, gyms, salons, wellness centres to remain closed
*Entertainment park, zoos, to remain closed
*Market complex, shopping malls can have 50 per cent of their capacity filled at a given point of time; these will be shut down at 10 pm.
*Cinema halls, restaurants and bars to have 50 per cent capacity filled, and will close at 10 pm
*Meetings and conferences can have a maximum of 200 persons or 50 per cent of the hall capacity (whichever is lower)
*All cultural, social, political gatherings can have not more than 50 persons
*Marriage related ceremonies to have not more than 50 persons
*Funerals, burial services to have maximum 20 persons
*Local trains to have 50 per cent seating capacity filled, and services to continue till 7 pm (Long distance trains will run as usual)
*Metro Railway services also to have 50 per cent capacity, but will operate at usual operational time
*Essential services left out of restrictions
In addition, from tomorrow, RTPCR tests will be conducted on all passengers entering Kolkata in flights from the “non-risk countries”.
