Delhi govt warns of possible power disruption due to coal shortage

The Delhi government has warned of a possible power supply disruption to important establishments including Metro trains and hospitals due to coal shortage.

According to a government statement, “Due to disruption of power supply from Dadri-II and Unchahar power stations, there may be a problem in 24-hours power supply to many essential institutions, including Delhi Metro and Delhi government hospitals.”

An emergency meeting was held by Delhi Power minister Satyendar Jain. He requested the Centre to ensure adequate coal supply to the power plants that source power for Delhi. Currently, only 25-30 per cent of the demand in Delhi is being met with through these power stations, he has said. The statement said that there is very little stock of coal left with these plants.
