An earthquake measuring 5.5 on the Richter Scale hit parts of Assam at around 10.20 am today. Its tremors were felt in West Bengal (including Kolkata) as well as various parts of the Northeast, Bangladesh and Bihar. While there were no reports of damage, details are still awaited.

Earlier today, some light tremors were also reported from Jammu and Kashmir and Haryana. The one in Haryana took place at around 5.43 am (of 3.1 magnitude) and another of 4.6 magnitude on the Richter Scale occurred in Jammu and Kashmir around 5.15 am.
