The Election Commission of India has submitted its report on the biopic, PM Narendra Modi, in a sealed cover before the Supreme Court on Monday, which will soon take a final call on the film’s release.
The poll panel has imposed a ban on the release of the film prior to the completion of the voting procedure till May 19.
According to the sources quoted in various reports, a poll panel official who had watched the film was of the opinion that the film could influence voters in favour of a particular political party and therefore should not be released before polling comes to an end.
The biopic is “unidimensional” and portrays Narendra Modi as an uncompromising, strong-willed leader, the reports were quoted saying.
The apex court has asked the poll panel to give a copy of the report to the producer of the film, who had moved court against the EC’s ban on the release of the film
before May 19. The producer’s argument has been that the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) had cleared the film.
