Election Commission asks Eros Now to stop web series on PM Modi

The Election Commission on Saturday asked the media platform Eros Now to stop the screening of a web series on Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Modi – Journey of a Common Man cannot be telecast, according to the EC, based on its April 10 order that prevented any biopic, biography or hagiography which serves the interest of any political entity when the model code of conduct is in vogue.

The EC had prevented the release of the film, PM Narendra Modi, on April 10 stating that it “disturbs the level-playing field”. The EC had said that any such “biopic material in the nature of biography/hagiography sub-serving the purposes of any political entity or individual connected to it, which is intended to, or which has the potential to disturb the level playing field during the elections, should not be displayed in the electronic media including cinematograph during the operation of MCC.”

Eros Now has been asked to immediately remove all content connected to the web series.

Lok Sabha elections are being held in the country in seven phases. The first two phases – April 11 and 18 are over and five more phases – on April 23, 29, May 6, 12 and 19 are left. Election results will be announced on May 23.
