A fake Facebook account of actor Soumitra Chatterjee that carried posts uncharacteristic of him, prompted his daughter to lodge a complaint with the Kolkata Police authorities.
Poulami Bose, Chatterjee’s daughter, filed a complaint with the Kolkata Police’s cyber cell. Chatterjee is not on Facebook, doesn’t use social media and doesn’t even use a smart phone, his daughter mentioned in a Facebook post.
The fake account has a profile picture of Chatterjee. It has several posts that appeared embarrassing for the family, something that would be completely unlikely for Chatterjee to post. This has mainly prompted his daughter to take the matter so seriously.
Bose posted this on her Facebook account: “A whole lot of nonsense has been going on in my father’s name… I don’t know who (is) doing this but this must stop immediately… My father is not on Facebook… in face he doesn’t even have a smart phone… and is severely technologically challenged… I’m requesting all my friends to report this page… all the posts that are being attributed to him is nothing less than shameful…it goes against the person he is… his values, his principles, his beliefs…Please report this.”
Subsequently, a number of Facebook users commented on her post and advised her to bring the matter to the notice of the city police authorities. Later, the matter was taken up in the form of a formal complaint by the cyber crime cell.
