The municipal corporation in Indore suspended 21 officials for supporting Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Akash Vijayvargiya when he attacked their collegues with a cricket bat on Wednesday.
Akash is son of senior BJP leader Kailash Vijayvargiya and he is also a first time BJP legislator, from Indore-3. He has been arrested and denied bail, and sent to judicial custody for two weeks. The young, first time BJP legislator was seen in a video attacking two officials in presence of his supporters, police officials and a television crew.
Dhirendra Byas and Asit Khare – two civic body officials – were leading a team of civic body workers during an anti-encroachment drive at Ganji Compound area of Indore city when they were confronted by Akash Vijayvargiya and his men. The latter asked the two officials to leave within five minutes or face the music.
He is seen in the video threatening the officials saying, “after that whatever happens will be your responsibility.” Within a short time, there was an argument and attack, in which Akash Vijayvargiya is seen attacking the officials with a cricket bat as some people surrounding him try to stop him.
The video footage was checked and some civic body officials were seen rallying behind Vijayvargiya and shouting in support.
Meanwhile, another group of municipal officials were protesting against Akash Vijayvargiya.
