Kerala man fired by Gulf firm for derogatory remark on Kerala floods

UAE based Gulf firm Lulu Group International fired a man from Kerala after he allegedly made insensitive remarks on the flood conditions in the calamity hit state of Kerala. The man named Chery Palayattu worked as a cashier at the company’s Oman branch. After posting a social media status where he mocked the sanitation requirements of the people of Kerala, the firm issued a termination letter with immediate effect. The firm announced that its move was to send a loud and clear message to society about its stance in such sensitive issues.

Palayattu later apologised for his remark.

The owner of Lulu Group, MA Yusuf Ali, who is also from Kerala, has donated 9.23 million UAE dirhams for relief operations in the flood-hit state.
