Temperature in Kolkata and parts of south Bengal may come down by 2-3°C from Wednesday, say weather experts.
Cold air from the north-west has already started entering West Bengal and the eastern parts of the country. The temperature over the next few days may touch 18°C.
However, this does not indicate arrival of winter officially because such abrupt lowering of temperature in parts of the country may happen due to local influences.
A few days ago there was heavy snowfall in Jammu-Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh, which led to winter-like conditions in parts of eastern India. Officially, the ideal winter arrives when temperature reaches 15°C and stays that way for four to five days.
This year, such conditions may develop close to December 15. For the coming few days, the maximum temperatures during daytime may remain between 30-32°C. The humidity in the air has also started decreasing which is favourable for the development of a wintry climate.
