The West Bengal government on Monday changed the dates of complete lockdown in the state for the month of August. Dates have been changed twice before already. The revised dates for the complete lockdown in Bengal are:
August 5 (Wednesday)
August 8 (Saturday)
August 20 (Thursday)
August 21 (Friday)
August 27 (Thursday)
August 28 (Friday)
August 31 (Monday)
The decision was taken as the government authorities received calls from people requesting change of dates as there are several “festivals and local community-base customs” this month which were coinciding with the dates of lockdown that had been announced earlier, said senior officials. [The earlier lockdown dates were August 5 (Wednesday), August 8 (Saturday), August 16 (Sunday), August 17 (Monday), August 23 (Sunday), August 24 (Monday) and August 31 (Monday).]
Bengal government decided to impose a biweekly lockdown to contain the spread of COVID-19 after a sudden spike in the number of cases since the last two weeks of July.
