Mamata Banerjee calls on Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar at Raj Bhawan on Thursday evening

Talks on attack on her cabinet colleague from Murshidabad?

West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee called on Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar on Thursday evening at Raj Bhawan. She went to Raj Bhawan straight from her party meeting at Pailan in South 24 Parganas.

Banerjee and Dhankhar discussed matters that were not officially disclosed to the media. However, under the current political scenario in West Bengal – with elections set to be announced any day now – the meeting is being considered significant. For one, Union Home Minister Amit Shah is in Kolkata and a state minister was seriously injured in bomb blast less than 24 hours ago.

On Wednesday, Zakir Hossain – minister in the Mamata Banerjee cabinet – was severely injured in a bomb blast at Nimtita railway station in Murshidabad district. Twenty-five others were also seriously injured in the incident, prompting the government to ask three state agencies – the Criminal Investigating Department (CID), Special Task Force (STF) and the Counter Intelligence Force (CIF) – to conduct the probe.
