Mamata Banerjee: media spreading Coronavirus panic to divert attention from Delhi violence

West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday alleged that a section of the media was spreading panic on Coronavirus at the Centre’s behest to divert attention from the Delhi violence. The violence has led to loss of 48 lives and left over 200 persons injured. Banerjee was speaking at a party workers’ meeting at Buniyadpur in Dakshin Dinajpur.

Banerjee reiterated that the Delhi violence was a “planned genocide” by the BJP who tried to portray it as riots by hiring outsiders to cause trouble. She added that there was no need for Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) as already there are set procedures for giving citizenship to refugees. A block-level protest program will be held on Friday across the state condemning the BJP for the Delhi violence and the citizenship issue, Banerjee said.

The Trinamool Congress chief on Wednesday asked male workers of her party to ensure safety of women in their respective areas. She reiterated that her partymen should be well behaved, else they would be thrown out of the party.
