Mamata Banerjee to file nomination today, roadshow in Haldia

Banerjee is candidate from the Nandigram seat of East Midnapore district.

Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee, who is contesting from the Nandigram seat for the coming Assembly polls, will file her nomination today.

Banerjee held a public meeting in Nandigram on Tuesday. At the meeting, the Trinamool Congress chief – who was visiting the area for the first time after the party’s candidate list was made public – asked voters to “make fools of them on April 1”. Election in Nandigram is scheduled on April 1, the second phase of Bengal elections. On Wednesday, she will offer puja at a temple, and then hold a roadshow in Haldia. At the conclusion of the roadshow, she will file her nomination at Haldia.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate from Nandigram is her former aide Suvendu Adhikary.

Elections are scheduled in eight phases in West Bengal — from March 27 to April 29. Results will be out on May 2.
