Monsoon arrives in Kolkata and rest of Bengal, heavy rains in Mumbai

Kolkata and other southern districts of West Bengal witnessed continuous downpour since Monday morning after few splashes of rain in isolated pockets on Sunday.

Districts in the northern parts of West Bengal also experienced rainfall. According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the highest temperature was well below the average as Kolkata got 2.2 mm rainfall till this morning.

IMD authorities said Kolkata and its adjoining districts may experience rains for few days due to a depression over Bihar and Jharkhand.
Since Sunday night, Mumbai was hit by heavy rains resulting in major slowdown of traffic. Four people were reported dead in Mumbai and adjacent areas. The heavy downpour led to waterlogging in low-lying areas. In south Mumbai’s Wadala, huge part of a wall caved in and collapsed over several cars of a housing complex. No casualties were reported however. Residents trapped inside the building complex were being rescued to safety. Mumbai received 231.4 mm rainfall in the last 24 hours.
