No misunderstanding, my best wishes for Laxmi: Mamata Banerjee

Laxmi Ratan Shukla has expressed his wish to stay away from politics to devote more time to sports.

West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday said that she wished the best for Laxmi Ratan Shukla, who had sent his resignation letter to her. Shukla — a former cricketer in the national team — is minister of state for sports in the West Bengal government. According to Banerjee, Shukla had said he wanted to devote more time to sports, and would prefer to stay away from politics.

“I see nothing wrong in this. He is a good person, and my best wishes are with him. There is no scope for misunderstanding,” Banerjee said. She added that Shukla had not mentioned anything about resigning as minister, but expressed his wish to stay away from politics in order to devote more time to sports. “He is a sportsperson, and if he wishes to devote more time to sports, he can definitely do so,” she said. Banerjee had asked her office to go ahead with the official procedure of accepting Shukla’s resignation as minister from the state cabinet.
