PM Modi & Amit Shah the only syndicate in India: Mamata Banerjee in Siliguri

The Trinamool chief took out a rally in Siliguri to protest the fuel price hike.

As Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed his rally in Kolkata’s Brigade Parade Ground on Sunday ahead of the Assembly elections 2021, West Bengal chief minister and Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee took out a “padayatra” in Siliguri to protest the hike of fuel prices including the price of LPG.

Mamata Banerjee’s rally started from Darjeeling More as she led from the front along with state minister Chandrima Bhattacharya, MPs Mimi Chakraborty, Nusrat Jahan, other leaders such as Dola Sen. Thousands of people – especially women – participated in the padayatra. Banerjee addressed a public meeting after the conclusion of the rally.

“Narendra Modi and Amit Shah are the only syndicate in India. Covid pandemic happened, fuel prices rose but the prime minister was nowhere to be found. People get free rice here, but they have to spend nearly Rs 900 on cooking gas to boil the rice,” Banerjee said at the end of the rally in Siliguri, when the leaders assembled to address the people. “If women suffer in their homes due to the price of cooking gas, they can make things difficult for the BJP,” Banerjee said.

Last month Banerjee reached Nabanna – the state administrative headquarters – in an electric scooter and drove back home in order to protest the hike in fuel prices. The battery-operated two-wheeler was her way of protesting the hike in the price of petrol and diesel.

“He is saying we will make Sonar Bangla. I am asking you have you made Sonar Bharat?” Banerjee said, adding that the BJP hadn’t kept its promises anywhere in the country, and were now making similar promises for Bengal that they wouldn’t keep. “Everyday, people are suffering all across the country” she said. She added that women in Bengal could stay outside their homes in West Bengal at 12 midnight or at 4 in the morning, whereas women in BJP-ruled Uttar Pradesh were being brutally tortured every day. She mentioned the recent incidents of atrocities on women in UP’s Hathras.
