Demonestisation was deliberately designed to help big businesses, Congress president Rahul Gandhi said today, a day after the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) came out with the information that most of the banned cash had come back into the banking system.
The Congress president said this was a scam. “Notebandi is a huge scam,” he said.
The Reserve Bank of India had said yesterday that over 99.3 per cent of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes banned by the government in November 2016 through demonetisation had returned to the banking system. Only a miniscule part – Rs 10,720 crore was left outside it.
Gandhi said it was made to help Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s friends convert black money into white money. “He took out money from your pocket and gave it to his crony capitalist friends,” Rahul Gandhi said. “It is true no one was able to do something like this in the country since Independence. A Prime Minister took such a decision.”
