Congress president Rahul Gandhi was reported trailing in Amethi, Uttar Pradesh. Amethi has been his constituency since 2004. Rahul Gandhi is also contesting from Kerala’s Wayanad. Amethi has been an interesting seat as the Congress has never lost the Amethi seat except in 1998.
The early trends showed that he was behind Smriti Irani of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Smriti Irani had lost to Rahul Gandhi in 2014, but the margin had come down considerably.
