Addressing the Congress parliamentary party meeting on Wednesday, Sonia Gandhi heaped praise on her son, Congress president Rahul Gandhi for infusing new life into the party.
Stating that he has “worked tirelessly”, the former president of the party noted that the current party president’s leadership has taken to destroy the supposedly invincible aura of the opponents. He took them ‘head-on’, she stated.
Alluding to the recent victories in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, Sonia Gandhi said that the Congress is headed to the Lok Sabha polls in May 2019 with ‘new hope’. Attacking the Modi government for assaulting the “values, principles and provisions of the Constitution”, Sonia Gandhi stated that there is an “atmosphere of fear” in the country. The right to freedom of speech has been ‘curtailed’ under the Modi regime, she added.
Attended by senior Congress members like Mallikarjun Kharge, Ghulam Nabi Azad, Rahul Gandhi and former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh – the Congress parliamentary party meeting saw the gathering of party leaders who after the meeting headed out to a demonstration outside the Parliament against the Rafale fighter-jet deal.
