South Bengal floods: Mamata Banerjee to visit Ghatal today

Last week she went to various parts of Howrah district.

West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee will be in Ghatal area of West Midnapore district on Tuesday to review the flood situation in the area. Heavy rainfall and the subsequent release of water from the dams of the area has caused the flooding in several parts of south Bengal, including Howrah and West Midnapore districts.

Mamata Banerjee visited various parts of Howrah district last week, including Amta and Udaynarayanpur, the worst-hit areas. Banerjee had also called PM Modi and discussed the matter.

Several parts of south Bengal have been inundated since last week – including East Burdwan, West Burdwan, East Midnapore, Hooghly, Howrah, South 24 Parganas, Hooghly, Howrah and West Midnapore. At least 15 people have died, and around three lakh people have been displaced after heavy rain and subsequent discharge of water from the dams of the Damodar Valley Corporation. Banerjee has blamed the Centre for the flood situation, calling it “man-made”.
