Sunday lockdown in Uttar Pradesh, not wearing mask could mean fine up to Rs 10,000

The Uttar Pradesh government has imposed a Sunday lockdown in view of the rising cases of Coronavirus infection. Also, those caught without a mask can be slapped fine up to Rs 10,000. The Sunday lockdown is likely to be a weekly feature when only essential commodities will be allowed.

The chief minister Yogi Adityanath has himself tested positive for COVID.

The state has already announced that schools will be shut till May 15 and postponed state board exams after reporting the highest-single day spike in coronavirus cases since the outbreak of the pandemic last year. A 7 pm to 8 am night curfew has also been enforced in 10 districts including Lucknow, Prayagraj, Varanasi, Kanpur Nagar, Ghaziabad, Meerut and Gorakhpur.
