The Supreme Court on Friday dismissed a case against Malayalam actor Priya Prakash Varrier filed against her on the basis of a complaint. The argument of the case filed was that she is seen winking in the song from an upcoming film, Oru Adaar Love, which was deemed by the complainants as blasphemous.

It was filed against her for “hurting religious sentiments”. Hyderabad Police had accepted the complaint and filed a case against her. Varrier had moved court saying it had been “misunderstood”. It was a traditional song and moreover, it expressed love.

Chief Justice Dipak Mishra told the complainant, “Somebody in a film sings a song and you have no other job but to file a case.”

The song had gone viral when it was released in February this year. It even made Varrier one of the most searched on the internet. The film will be released in September as the case had delayed its release.
