There was snowfall in Darjeeling town on Friday afternoon. It started snowing from around 4.45 pm, and has been snowing till the time we are publishing this. Due to heavy, dark clouds in the sky, there was poor visibility, and temperature fell sharply.
Temperature was approximately two to three degree centigrade, but it is expected to go below freezing point at night.
Darjeeling town hasn’t seen snowfall in the past one decade. There was snowfall in the town last in December-January 2007-08, though Sandakphu, Phalut and parts of Sikkim witness snowfall every year. There was snowfall in the Tiger Hill area even in 2012, but not in Darjeeling town, and therefore today’s snowfall has brought great joy to the local people and tourists alike.
