NIA team at Arjun Singh’s house to probe crude bomb explosion
The blast took place outside his house on September 8.
A team from the National Investigation Agency (NIA) visited the house of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Arjun Singh on Thursday to probe the explosion outside Singh’s house in Jagaddal that took place last week, on September 8. The NIA had received orders on Monday to take over the probe. A team of the Central Forensic Sciences Laboratory (CFSL) accompanied the NIA team today. They collected samples and checked the details of the crude bomb blast site just outside Singh’s house. It is around 45 km from Kolkata. A similar second blast allegedly took place earlier this week, some distance from Singh’s house.
The NIA team is likely to talk to Arjun Singh, his son Pawan Kumar Singh as well as the state police that was initially investigating the case. Some persons arrested in this connection will be questioned by the NIA team.
On September 8, some crude bombs were hurled at Singh’s house when he was in Delhi. Singh has alleged that the state’s ruling party, Trinamool Congress, is responsible for both the attacks. However, the Trinamool Congress said that the attack was the fallout of the BJP’s internal feud. Trinamool’s Partha Bhowmick said that his party is not responsible for any attack and the BJP MP is organising these in order to draw attention, as he is losing popularity in the area. The Bengal governor Jagdeep Dhankhar had criticised the attack, calling it “wanton violence” in West Bengal that showed “no sign of abating”. He wrote that he expects “prompt action” by the West Bengal Police and had earlier flagged his concern to chief minister Mamata Banerjee.
Singh had switched over to the BJP from the Trinamool Congress in 2019, and was elected from Barrackpore. His son Pawan Kumar Singh is BJP MLA from Bhatpara.
