“Trinamool is not for sale,” says Mamata Banerjee; continues attack on defectors
Booth-level workers are the actual party leaders, she said.
Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday reiterated her observations on defectors from her party who have joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). At a workers’ meeting in Alipurduar Parade Ground, Banerjee accused the BJP of buying “greedy” leaders. She said that those joining the BJP were non performers and wouldn’t have got tickets from her party anyway, and that’s what had led them to leave the Trinamool Congress to join the BJP.
She pointed out that the tickets are not sold for money but honest work is the only thing that is valued in her party. “Trinamool Congress is not for sale,” she said, adding that those who were leaving her party to join the BJP were doing so against money, and also to project the huge amount of wealth that they had amassed. Banerjee added that not these non-performers, but the booth-level workers who were the real strength and leaders of the party.
The CM said she was overwhelmed with the number of people that had gathered at the event and felt confident of sweeping the elections in north Bengal this time. After the party performed poorly in the Lok Sabha elections 2019, she appealed to the people of north Bengal to compensate the loss this time around.
