Y-plus security back for Sovon Chatterjee, fuels talks of his return to Trinamool Congress

Is Sovon Chatterjee’s return to Trinamool Congress just a matter of time?

Y-plus security back for Sovon Chatterjee, fuels talks of his return to Trinamool Congress

The West Bengal government has re-assigned Y-plus category security to former Trinamool Congress leader Sovon Chatterjee, who is currently with Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He was one of the closest aides of Banerjee when he was with the party. He fell out with Mamata Banerjee and stayed away from active politics during the last Lok Sabha polls. The state government had withdrawn his Y-plus security later.

Chatterjee and his friend Baishakhi Banerjee joined the BJP in August this year. But they have expressed publicly their “discomfort” in being with the party, where they did not feel well accepted.

Sovon Chatterjee, who was Mayor of Kolkata and held some of the most important portfolios as minister in West Bengal – visited Trinamool Congress chief and Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee on bhai phonta.

It is being said that Banerjee had asked him why he had stopped his usual morning walks, knowing that Chatterjee suffered from diabetes. To this, Chatterjee said that he was fearing threat to his life and hence the decision. On hearing this, Banerjee decided to give him back the Y-plus security that he enjoyed earlier when he was with the Trinamool Congress. Eight security personnel have already reached Chatterjee’s residence today, it was learnt.

This has sparked another round of talks on whether Chatterjee is finally going to be back with the Trinamool Congress, the party he has been associated with since its inception.
